ASHBURN, Va. – November 13, 2025 – Curtiss-Wright today announced that its PacStar® 451, 452, 453, and 454 tactical edge servers, which are part of PacStar Modular Data Center (MDC), are now validated for Azure Local, formerly known as Azure Stack HCI. This milestone demonstrates how Microsoft Azure Stack Local can now operate on small-form-factor tactical hardware, delivering true hybrid cloud capability to the tactical edge and enabling secure, enterprise-class workloads in denied, disrupted, intermittent, and limited-bandwidth (DDIL) environments.
“Our collaboration with Microsoft enables customers to deploy trusted, cloud-native applications wherever the mission requires,” said Brian Perry, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Curtiss-Wright Defense Solutions. “By achieving Microsoft Azure Local validation, we are accelerating the delivery of enterprise-grade cloud services to the tactical edge. Resiliency, scalability, and survivability are critical. Getting these capabilities into the hands of our nation’s protectors faster than our adversaries can adapt is our mission.”
The validation comes as the U.S. Department of War calls for faster adoption of commercial innovation and cloud-native architectures. The Curtiss-Wright and Microsoft collaboration directly supports this initiative by delivering operationally proven hybrid cloud infrastructure in rugged, SWaP-optimized form factors. For Microsoft, this extends the reach of Azure beyond the enterprise. Running on Curtiss-Wright PacStar hardware, Azure services can now be deployed further forward than ever before, supporting software and data where they are needed most.
For deployed units operating in DDIL environments, this advancement enables local, autonomous operation of critical cloud services such as AI-powered analytics, mission planning tools, and real-time data fusion. Mission planners, system architects, and field operators gain scalable cloud infrastructure at the edge, without dependence on reach-back connectivity. The result is faster decision-making, greater operational autonomy, and enhanced situational awareness in the most challenging conditions.
The Microsoft-validated PacStar MDC brings enterprise-class hybrid cloud to the edge. It enables coalition and joint task force (CJTF) operations to deploy private, tactical cloud environments previously limited to traditional rack-mount data centers. This capability reduces size, weight, and power (SWaP) requirements while maintaining the security, performance, and interoperability required for multi-domain operations.
Built for expeditionary use, PacStar MDC delivers full data center capabilities - compute, storage, and networking - in a rugged, modular, and highly transportable solution certified for Azure Stack Local.
