Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) is Switzerland’s state-owned federal rail operator and a leader in high-speed passenger transportation across Europe’s demanding mountainous terrain.
For over two decades, SBB has operated its InterCity-Neigezug (ICN) “Tilting Trains.” These trains use motion control systems to safely navigate high-speed turns on existing rail lines, delivering faster, smoother journeys for millions of passengers annually.
As their high-speed trains approached mid-life, SBB sought a reliable, cost-effective modernization strategy to extend operational life, maintain safety and passenger comfort, and meet modern European safety and reliability standards.
The solution had to support continuous, round-the-clock operation, navigating Switzerland’s challenging rail routes at high speeds while ensuring passenger safety and comfort. It also needed to comply with the stringent European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization standards.
